RREC South Western Section

The Club was founded in 1957 by a small group of enthusiasts in the Oxfordshire area. To be precise at Paternoster Farm, led by Edward Harris and his sister Gladys.

However, at that time there were probably only one or two West Country members, but no records exist locally of these statistics – But by 1970 a nucleus of some 8/10 members formed the South Western Section at a meeting held at the “White Hart” Mortonhampstead in Devon.(Amongst these were Solicitor: Tony Boyce and Surgeon: Dr. Eustace Hope.) In those days venues (mostly picnics) were arranged by telephone only a day or so before the set date – a far cry from the professionally organised events which are on offer today, both locally and world wide.

From this small beginning a few dedicated members created a continuing enthusiasm and expansion for the Section and ownership for the Marque in general.

At present we have approximately 120 /140 members throughout our region which encompasses: Cornwall, Devon and part of Somerset (with a rather non defined boundary stretching from Hinkley Point in the north through Taunton, Ilminster and south to Lyme Regis. However, many owners living close to these boundaries are members of two or more Sections – and ALL are most welcome).

The Section is active, both locally, Nationally and at International level. A wide range of events are always planned and we encourage up-country members to participate in all activities and weekends.
